Install Ubuntu

This chapter outlines the process of installing Ubuntu 20.04 Server Edition.

Ready to install the media​

Please download and install the installation image from [Ubuntu releases] (https://releases.ubuntu.com/20.04/).

There are many methods for starting the installation program, but the simplest and most common method is to create the bootable USB device to start the system to be installed.

Boot from the installation media​

Insert the USB startup disk into the system to be installed and start it.

Most computers will automatically guide from USB or DVDs, although in some cases, disable it in order to shorten the guidance time.If you don't see the startup message and the "welcome" screen followed, you need to set the computer to start from the installation media.

When the computer starts to set the settings or start the menu, a message should be displayed on the screen.Depending on the manufacturer, it may be Escape, F2, F10 or F12.Just restart the computer and press this key until the start menu appears, and then select the drive with Ubuntu to install the medium.

After a while, the installation program will start in the screen of its language.

Use the installation program​

The design of the installation program is easy to use and has a reasonable default value. Therefore, for the first installation, you can usually only accept the default value of the most direct installation:

  • Choose your language
  • Update the installation program (if provided)
  • Select keyboard layout
  • Do not configure the network (the installation program will try to configure the wired network interface through the DHCP, but if it fails, you can continue to connect to the network) Unless you must configure in the network, do not configure an agent or custom mirror image
  • For storage, select "Use the entire Disk", then select the disk to be installed, and then select "Complete" on the configuration screen and confirm the installation
  • Enter the username, host name and password (without special security requirements, you can use starriver as a username, starriver@123 as a password, starriver as the host name)
  • Just choose to complete on the SSH and snapshot screen
  • After the installation is complete, you will see the log message now
  • Select to restart after completion, and then use the user name and password to log in to the provided
